Description
10" (25 cm.) x 3". The long box with unusual tapered sides
is covered with fine mother-of-pearl veneers and decorated
with silver borders and appliques, including two oval
silver frames that enclose watercolor scenes of Vienna
painted by Viennese artist Balthasar Wigand (1770-1846).
The box is maroon paper lined on the interior, and was
likely created in the Wigand atelier wherein he designed
decorative objects and boxes that could feature his
miniature paintings. Excellent condition, some light fading
of scenes. Vienna,circa 1840.
