Description
8" (20 cm.) x 6" x 3". The wooden box is covered with
paper to simulated wood graining and has a glass-enclosed
needlework floral design on the lid with decorative
papers; the box opens to reveal two intricate cut-paper
scenes,one depicting a cherub under garland flanked by two
urns and the words ?Der Freundschaft Geweiht" (Dedicated
to Friendship),and the other features a castle scene with
two persons and lavish foliage,surrounded by diamond-point
mirrors with gilt paper edge. The lower scene lifts out to
reveal compartment below centered by a red velvet
pincushion. Excellent condition. Vienna,Biedermeier
era,circa 1835.
