Description
23" (58 cm.) x 21" x 19" opened. A wooden room,presented folded as a box,unhinges and opens to form into a large furnished English tea room,having original wall papers with dainty bird and floral design that is repeated on the free-standing counter front,and a lavish tapestry-textured floor paper to appear as though carpet. The back wall is fitted with12 niches flanking a center display with gilt-paper-trimmed mirror,and the shelves are abundantly-filled with wrapped packages and other assorted goodies. The tea room is furnished with a painted wooden counter,four wooden pedestal tables with fancy-cut tops decorated with decoupage,8 matching chairs,and two matching jardinieres filled with flowers,each furnishing still tied to the box with original ribbons. A sign at the crest reads "Five O'Clock" in gilt letters. Excellent wonderfully-preserved condition. French,circa 1890,for the English market. An extremely rare presentation of the popular folding furnished rooms presented in the French market at this time; no other examples of "Five O'Clock" are known to exist.
