Description
12" (30 cm.) Bisque head with flat-cut neck socket that accommodates to dowel atop the original composition torso, very plump face, blue glass spiral threaded eyes, painted lashes, delicate rose eye shadow, lightly feathered brows, accented nostrils, closed mouth with shaded lips, pierced ears, blonde mohair wig over original Schmitt pate, composition body with eight-loose-ball jointing and flat-cut derriere ridge, straight wrists. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: 3/0 Bte SGDG (head) BTE (bottom derriere). Comments: Schmitt et Fils, circa 1878, their earliest period bebe, and with BTE marking indicating the model was registered with the French courts. Value Points: very rare early Schmitt bebe with beautiful expression, fine original state of preservation, and with original store boutique label from the prestigious Paris toy store of Au Magasin des Enfants.
