21" (53 cm.) Bisque socket head depicting a clown,with untinted white complexion and painted clown decorations,has brown glass sleep eyes,mohair lashes,painted lower lashes,black arched brows,closed mouth with shy smile,original tri-color frizzy clown wig,hollow torso which separates at waist for use as candy container,composition limbs with jointing at shoulders,elbows,hips and knees. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: 8 1304 (incised) Wimpern Ges Gescht (red stamp). Comments; original bisque head from Simon and Halbig art character 1300 series,on original French body with original rich silk clown costume with lace ruffle and trim,brass bells,and tacked-on silk slippers. The presentation doll as candy container was likely prepared by commission for a luxury Parisian candy store. Value Points: very rare bisque character model with superb sculpting,pristine state of preservation of doll,wig and costume.
