16" (41 cm.) Bisque socket head with very plump cheeks and throat and domed head excepting a flat cut opening at the back of head (see photo),with very small cobalt blue glass enamel eyes,dark eyeliner,painted lashes,rose blushed eye shadow,feathered brows,accented nostrils and eye corners,slightly-open mouth with double row of tiny teeth,original pate attached with string ties,blonde mohair wig,original fully-jointed body. Condition: generally excellent,body has been heavily-revarnished. Comments: mystery doll,similar to earliest bebes by Jules Steiner,circa 1870. The doll has also been attributed as an early model by Brouillet et Cachelux,based upon the body style which this doll has and which was registered by that firm in 1861. Value Points: an extremely rare and intriguing bebe with unique construction of both head and body,and having very beautiful gentle face with finest bisque,with fine early linen costume and cap,leather shoes signed C.C.
