Description
27" (69 cm.) Bisque socket head with luminous bisque, deep blue glass paperweight inset eyes with very thick dark eyeliner, painted dark curly lashes,brush-stroked and feathered brows, accented eye corners, shaded nostrils, closed mouth with very full outlined lips, pierced ears, brunette human hair wig over cork pate,French composition and wooden fully-jointed body. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: 13 (incised, somewhat illegible, could be 14). Comments: Emile Jumeau, circa 1892,although not bearing the incised series number, the doll is indubitably the 223 model which was also used for Jumeau's Paris Bebe (see Theimer/Theriault's The Jumeau Book, page 370). Value Points: the rarity of the bebe is rivalled by its superb sculpting, painting, and bisque,an overall gorgeous doll wearing beautiful antique silk and lace dress and bonnet, undergarments, stockings and shoes.
