28" (71 cm.) Pressed bisque socket head with very full
lower cheeks and chin,very deep blue glass paperweight
inset eyes,thick dark eyeliner,painted curly lashes,mauve-
blushed eye shadow,brush-stroked and multi-feathered
brows,accented eye corners,shaded nostrils,closed mouth
with defined space between the shaded and outlined
lips,separately-modeled pierced ears,dimpled chin and
philtrum,blonde mohair wig over cork pate,French
composition and wooden early fully-jointed body with
straight wrists and plump limbs,Condition: generally
excellent,1" firing line behind the right ear which is
original in the making. Marks: 13 (and artist checkmarks
on head) Jumeau Medaille d'Or Paris (body). Comments:
Emile Jumeau,circa 1884,an early model of the beloved sad-
faced child sculpted by premiere French 19th-century
sculptor,Ernest Carriere-Belleuse for Jumeau. Value Point:
the beautiful quality of bisque and highly-defined
sculpting is enhanced by splendid paperweight eyes with
rich mauve eye blushing,wearing outstanding original silk
ivory costume with matching bonnet,bone-handled
parasol,undergarments,stockings,signed Jumeau shoes,and
having original labeled Jumeau box.
