Description
20" (51 cm.) Bisque socket head,brown glass paperweight
inset eyes,dark eyeliner,lushly-painted lashes,brush-
stroked brows,accented nostrils and eye corners,accented
nostrils and eye corners,closed mouth with defined space
between the outlined shaded lips,pierced ears,brunette
human hair wig in ringlet curls over cork pate,French
composition and wooden fully-jointed body with straight
wrists. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: 8 (head)
Jumeau Medaille d'Or Paris (body). Comments: Emile
Jumeau,the doll wears elaborate traditional costume from
the village of Plougastel in the department of Brittany in
France,with richly-embroidered silk cap and fichu; purple
and green vibrant colors predominated in this costume
which was described by one French painter as a "veritable
orgy of warm colors". The doll appeared in the book,French
Dolls in Folklore Costumes by Florence Theriault. (1999).
