16" (41 cm.) Bisque socket head with amber-tinted complexion,demi-lune shaped brown glass sleep eyes,painted black curly upper lashes,black feathered brows,accented nostrils and eye corners,open mouth,outlined lips,two porcelain upper teeth,amber-tinted composition baby body,wearing black velvet jacket,pants,and unusual lambswool turban-like antique cap with original French gilt-lettered label on the lining. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: K made in Germany 14 243 JDK (head) made in Germany (torso). Comments: Kestner,circa 1915,their rare portrait of a Chinese baby is notable,not only for its endearing expression and beautiful amber-tinted complexion,but because it is one of the few doll models from this era that was used for only one doll,that is,without variations of complexion or modeling. Value Points: wonderful doll with original body and body finish,choice bisque and painting,unusual and appealing antique costume.
