Description
14" (36 cm.) and 16". Each has carved wooden socket head with sculpted and painted hair, sculpted facial features, all wooden spring-jointed body. Included is the Bride, model 101,very cheerful expression, brown upper- glancing painted eyes, white eyedots, closed mouth with painted row of teeth, and sculpted short brown bobbed hair with painted pink hair bow, wearing white cotton wedding dress with veil and bouquet, matching undergarments and original Schoenhut shoes with grommet-edged holes in the soles. And the Groom, model 16/201,with blue painted eyes, solemn expression, closed mouth, and with short sculpted side-parted hair with deep combmarks, wooden spring-jointed body, and wearing antique family-made black cotton tails and pants, white shirt with black tie,and with original black Schoenhut shoes with grommet-edged holes in the soles. Condition: generally excellent, original finish except early discreetly-added painted lashes,nickel-sized paint flake at back of his hair. Comments: Schoenhut, circa 1915. The dolls had been in the care of Elmeta Davis of Kansas,on display in her Sunday School classroom, until her retirement to New Mexico where they passed onto a family friend in whose care they have remained since. It is believed that Elmeta Davis was the original owner. Value Points: two rare Schoenhut models, with wonderful expressions that capture their about-to-be-married mood, and having original family costumes.
