Description
19" (48 cm.) All-wooden doll with socket head depicting an
adult man,slender face with well-defined facial
planes,sculpted short brown hair,defined ears,deeply-set
eye sockets with painted brown eyes,eyeliner,short stroke
brows,strong prominent nose,closed mouth,wooden body with
ball-jointing at the waist,spring-jointing at
shoulders,elbows,wrists,hips,knees and ankles,costume
included. Condition: structurally excellent with original
finish,head finish is excellent,body finish has some rubs
and wear,Comments: Schoenhut of Philadelphia,the model was
introduced in 1914,advertising that the model was designed
for the use of "students of fine art,or dressed figures in
window display",the Schoenhut figure follows the basic
design of wooden artist's mannequins that had been in
production for at least 150 years (and,in fact,was also
used by Leon Casimir Bru in his design of a wooden body
for his poupee). The model was made for four years only.
Value Points: among the rarest of the Schoenhut dolls,with
handsome face,unique body,having original Schoenhut metal
stand.
