Description
17" (43 cm.) Standing upon a wooden platform with original
decorative paper covers is a brown-complexioned man with
highly-characterized face,black enamel inset eyes,painted
lashes,brows and nostrils accented,closed mouth with row
of teeth,wooden block torso,lower legs and hands,wire
upper arms and legs,and wearing original silk Turkish-
style costume and colorful turban,while holding a fan in
one hand and a silk parasol in the other. When wound,music
plays,he turns his head from side to side,waves the
fan,and the parasol twirls about. Condition: generally
excellent. Comments: attributed to Zinner and Sohne of
Germany,circa 1890,probably for the French market. Value
Points: well-preserved rare early toy with unique facial
mold,original costume and accessories,well-functioning
movements and music.
