Description
10" (25 cm.) A set of nine paper mache figures depicting
circus clowns,on attached wooden bases; each clown with
painted colorful cap and costume,with variations of style
and design,and with various facial expressions. The clowns
were offered as a complete set of the popular 19th century
toy known variously as Jeu de Quilles or Skittles.
Condition: generally excellent. Comments: French,circa
1900,the very purpose of the toys,designed to be
battered,has ensured that few sets are found complete or
with fine original condition. Value Points: very rare
complete set in exceptional pristine condition with
wonderful expressions,variation of costumes,and vibrant
original colors.
