Description
17" (43 cm.) Of fine peach muslin fabric,the flat-dimensional face doll has hand-painted facial
features including blue side-glancing eyes,curly upper lashes,tiny brows,nostril dots,bow-
shaped lips,and brown yarn hair,stitch-jointed arms and legs,wearing original blue flowered
cotton dress and bonnet. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: designed by American
artist,Helen Trowbridge,circa 1917,created first in her own workshops where she recruited
local high school girls to cut and sew the dolls,with funds going to charitable groups overseen
by author Edith Wharton,and later assigned to Horsman who marketed the doll as "Pat-a-
Cake". The doll story of this remarkable woman is detailed in Don Jensen's Collector's Guide to
Horsman Dolls,pages 58-64. Value Points: rarely-found doll in fine state of preservation,by
noted American artist.
