Description
19" (48 cm.) Composition socket head with very characterized expression,wooden top hat of
band leader with decorative wooden plume and black brim,composition torso sculpted as a
red jacket with applied wooden buttons and yellow cord,all-wooden jointed arms and
legs,wooden hands drilled for carrying baton and with slits for holding signs,and painted
wooden shoes. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: General Electric Radio (and GE logo,on
hat). Comments: the figure was designed by famed American illustrator,Maxfield Parrish,as a
promotional piece by General Electric,and created in doll form by Joseph Kallus of Cameo,circa
1930. In their premiere on-going column "Doll Talk" for Contemporary Doll Collector,Don
Jensen wrote of the special appeal of advertising dolls,and,in particular,noted this doll. Value
Points: rare and intricately-designed fabulous character designed by sought-after American
illustrator.
