19" (48 cm.) Wax-over-papier-mache shoulder head of round-faced child,blue glass sleep eyes
that operate from wire lever at back torso,brown hair ringlet-curled wig on muslin cap,muslin
body,wax limbs to above the elbows and knees. Condition: very good,original finish with typical
light rubs on wax. Marks: S; Coleman...(original label,see photo). Comments: English,circa
1855,S. Coleman offered his wax wares at the Pantheon Bazaar which was particularly noted for
the wax arts which were popular at the time. Value Points: well-preserved labeled wax doll is
wearing her original costume including silk-embroidered tartalan with ivory silk
ribbons,undergarments,socks,and very charming bonnet of stiffened net with glass beads. The
doll was featured in an article by Estelle Johnston in Doll Reader,August 1994.
