Description
19" (48 cm.) Poured honey-wax shoulder head of woman with oval face,slender elongated
throat and defined bosom,inset pale blue eyes with outlined sockets,feathered brows,accented
nostrils and eye corners,closed mouth,light brown hair inserted into scalp and arranged with
braided loops and chignon,muslin-sateen body with shapely waist,stitch-jointed shoulders
and hips,poured wax lower arms. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: portrait doll of
the young Queen Victoria,English,circa 1840,a nearly identical model,attributed to Madame
Augusta Montanari,is in the Museum of London and shown in The History of Wax Dolls by
Mary Hillier,page 80. Value Points: beautifully-preserved condition of the doll and her original
costume with exquisitely-stitched costume details of gown and undergarments,seed pearl
coronet with matching bracelets,blue stone necklace.
