Description
17" (43 cm.) Rose-tinted wax-over-papier-mache shoulder head of adult lady with slender
oval face and very elongated throat,bright blue glass eyes,brown painted lashes and
brows,blonde mohair wig in an extravagant arrangement of soft curls,ears pierced into
head,polished chintz muslin body with papier-mache lower arms and legs,painted yellow
gloves and boots. Condition: very good/excellent,few rubs on face,rose paint skip on back
shoulder plate,Comments: Germany,circa 1875,probably Dressel,from their series of
"Staatsdamen" (society lady) dolls with "yellow gloves". Value Points: the all-original lady has
original coiffure with floral decorations,and is wearing her original fashionable gown of
patterned rose silk and lace,with painted two-button yellow gloves and painted fancy
blue/black boots with rose chenille edging. The doll was featured in two articles by Estelle
Johnston,"The Princess Dolls",Doll Reader,March 1992,and "German Wax Ladies",Doll
Reader,February 1993.
