29" (74 cm.) Solid domed wax-over-papier-mache shoulder head with heart-shaped face,blue enamel inset eyes,dark eyeliner,arched brows,accented nostrils and eye corners,closed mouth with row of painted teeth and slight smile,brunette human hair,muslin stitch-jointed body,wax- over-papier-mache lower arms and legs with defined separate fingers. Condition: good,original finish albeit light craquelure and spotty wax on facial complexion. Comments: English,circa 1850. Value Points: most unusual and expressive features on the early child,with painted teeth and smiling expression,wearing superb blue velvet gown with silk fringe,undergarments,bonnet. The doll was discussed by Estelle Johnston in an article "The Idiosyncratic Wax-Over Dolls of England",in Doll Reader,August 1994.
