16" (41 cm.) x 14". Arranged within a gilt-framed shadowbox are seven wax figures representing persons in religious ceremony,including angels and St. Joseph among others,each with painted features,very elaborate original silk costumes and accessories,with a background of painted blue walls,columns with faux-marble finish,chandelier,plants,and silk-covered stairs. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: circa 1800,Central European cloister work (Kloster Arbeit),a form of religious folk art intricately combining wax,paper,fabrics and other ephemera into complete scenes,such as this example,or simple small framed objects of memorabilia,designed to sell in order to raise funds for the cloister. Value Points: rare intricate cloister work with detailed architectural objects and seven wax people in original costumes.
