11" (28 cm.) Each has stockinette face with stitch-sculpted and painted features,armature
posable cloth body,and each is elaborately-costumed in authentically-detailed Syrian costumes.
Condition: generally excellent. Marks: Baronne Belling (two) Made in Syria Rouani Brothers Syria
(three). Comments: the Russian aristocrat Sandra Belling was known for her creation of artistic
cloth dolls during the early years of the 20th century. After she and her family fled to
Syria,escaping the Russian Revolution,she,along with the help of her family,continued the
creation of fine dolls until about the end of the 1940s. The complete story of Sandra Belling was
told in an article in Doll News,Winter 2010. Value Points: depicting various
persons,occupations,stations of society,the dolls wear well-preserved original costumes.
