11" (28 cm.) Papier-mache shoulder head with modeled bosom,sculpted black hair arranged in a braided coronet with decorative comb,silk hanging loop at top of head,painted delicate swirls of curls around the face,painted facial features,blue upper glancing eyes,black upper eyeliner,single stroke brows,closed mouth,attached to silk sac with cardboard cylinder base to give suggestion of body shape (but is actually empty and designed to hold sewing supplies),carved wooden hands and feet,silk slippers. Condition: good,repair to back shoulder plate. Comments: Germany,circa 1840,the "doll" was designed to serve as a "sewing companion"; its skirt contains tiny threads,silk pincushion and early scissors.
