Condition: generally excellent. Marks: Poupee Brevete SGDG. Comments: French, circa 1866,having the deposed hollow leather doll body of Pierre Victor Clement; the leather shoemaker with ties to the Paris doll industry, deposed his unusual poupee body in 1866,just in time for the 1867 Paris Universal Exposition. The body was inspired by the design by Adelaide Huret, yet designed to be more durable. Despite the awarding of the depose, few bodies were ever made and the doll is extremely rare today. Value Points: the rarity of the doll body is enhanced by gorgeous bisque face and brilliant eyes, superb original condition, very fine costume and accessories.
