22" (56 cm.) Bisque swivel head on kid-edged bisque shoulder plate,almond-shaped
blue/brown glass eyes with spiral threading,dark eyeliner,painted lashes,arched feathered
brows,accented nostrils and eye corners,closed mouth with slightly-upturned lip
corners,outlined lips,ears pierced into head,original blonde mohair wig with arranged curls,kid
poupee body with square-cut collarette,shapely torso,gusset-jointing at hips and
knees,separated toes,wooden arms with dowel-jointing at shoulders,elbows,and
wrists,separately-sculpted fingers. Condition: generally excellent,especially sturdy body.
Marks: J (head and shoulder). Comments: Leon Casimir Bru,circa 1867,the earliest version of
the so-called "Smiling Bru"; the wooden body and its variations were deposed in this year,just
prior to the important 1867 Paris International Exposition. Value Points: fine luxury doll with
very rare two-color eyes,sturdy original body,original wig,wearing very luxe original costume
comprising woolen suit with silk,lace and metallic ribbon trim,under brown velvet fitted cape
with metallic edging,layered undergarments including silk lace corset,stockings,fancy leather
boots,watch and fob,and velvet purse with cord trim containing a silk-covered dance card.
