20" (51 cm.) Papier-mache shoulder head,oval face and elongated throat,black sculpted short
curly hair with detailed painting of curls around the forehead and long painted curly
sideburns,painted facial features,brown upper glancing eyes,black upper eyeliner,single stroke
brows,closed mouth with accented lips,original firmly-stuffed muslin body with kid lower
arms and separately-sculpted fingers. Condition: generally excellent. Comments:
Germany,circa 1860,maker uncertain. Value Points: superb all-original condition,the rare
model with deeply-sculpted hair and sideburns is wearing his original folklore costume of
Appenzell,Switzerland comprising wool pants with embroidered leather suspenders,shirt,red
woolen vest,leggings,leather shoes. Included is red leather book "Souvenir de la Suisse",late
19th century,with sepia photographs of regional costumes.
