Description
15" (38 cm.) Wax head with two faces, one depicting a classic child model with brown glass inset
eyes and closed mouth, the other a sleeping child with eyelids modeled closed, the head enclosed
in a card stock "hood" which forms into a shoulder plate, muslin torso with bellows and pull-
string crier, composition lower limbs, antique costume. Condition: very good, rub on cheek where
head turned, crier needs adjustment. Comments: Germany, circa 1885,one of the earliest version
of the two-faced child. Value Points: rare variation of head-turning mechanism; the glass-eyed
face turns by manually turning the head, but the sleep-eyed face instantly "comes awake" when
the bellows in torso is pushed.
