Description
16" (41 cm.) Each has papier-mache solid domed shoulder head with expressively-posed heads,painted complexions,enamel inset eyes with very heavy eyelids,painted soft eye shadow,brows,eyeliner,nostrils,closed mouth and having original hemp wigs (one with original arranged curls),padded cloth torso,wooden jointed limbs. Condition: very good/excellent,some fingers retouched. Comments: Continental,early 19th century. Value Points: the figures,likely angels,are wearing original heavily-lined costumes of burgundy velvet and silk with lavish metallic passamenterie,and attached burgundy velvet boots with lacing and metallic trim. The dolls were acquired by Estelle Johnston from the estate collection of noted early collector Estelle Winthrop.
