Description
10" (25 cm.) Wax over papier-mache shoulder head with oval face and elongated throat,painted
facial features,blue eyes,closed mouth,slit brunette hair with coiled braids,all-wooden body with
articulation at shoulders,elbows,hips and knees,painted flat blue shoes. Condition: generally
excellent,typical wax rubs and light fading. Comments: Germany,mid-1800s. A nearly identical
doll,except with glass eyes,is shown in The History of Wax Dolls by Mary Hillier,was owned by the
daughter of Queen Victoria. Value Points: the doll wears her exquisite original royal costume of
silks and velvet with faux-ermine trim,garlands of paper flowers,pearl necklace,crown,and caries
a glass-ball sceptre,presented on her original velvet-covered plinth under glass dome.
