Description
17" (43 cm.) Solid domed papier-mache shoulder head with slender oval face and elongated
throat,black enamel eyes,painted eyeliner,fringed lashes,arched brows,accented
nostrils,closed mouth with center accent line,black pate with center crown slit for insertion of
brunette human hair wig with narrow braided chignon,pink kid poupee body. Condition:
generally excellent. Comments: French,probably Andreas Voit,circa 1840. Value Points:
wonderfully-preserved early doll with beautiful face and painting,very sturdy body is wearing
her original traditional wedding costume,Flemish or Normandy,with superb detail of
passamenterie,undergarments,dainty patterned slippers,and a very elaborate wired lace coiffe
with silk ribbons and lace streamers,decorated with wax orange blossoms and pearl cascades.
The doll has a blue ribbon award from 1976 UFDC national convention,and was featured in an
article "Pleasure in Pairs" by Estelle Johnson,in Doll Reader,May 1986.
