Description
27" (69 cm.) Solid domed thick papier-mache shoulder head posed in a downcast
demeanor,heavily-lidded enamel eyes,strong nose,accented nostrils,closed mouth with accented
lips,feathered brows,very stylized original mohair wig. all-wooden body with shapely
torso,dowel-jointing at shoulders,elbows,hips and knees,large separately-sculpted fingers.
Condition: generally excellent,some fabric wear on skirt. Comments: Germany,late 18th century.
Value Points: superbly sculpted and painted figure with fully-articulated wooden body,with
original wig and original embroidered early silk gown,undergarments,wooden sandals with stack
heels and leather straps. The doll was shown in the 1987 book Dolls,Toys and Childhood by Ruth
and Robert Mathes,page 120.
