Description
26" (66 cm.) Bisque socket head with very full cheeks, very deep blue glass paperweight inset eyes, thick dark eyeliner, painted curly lashes, mauve blushed eye shadow,brush-stroked and multi-feathered brows, accented nostrils and eye corners, closed mouth with defined space between the outlined lips, separately modeled and pierced ears,hand-tied brunette hair wig in long ringlet curls, cork pate,French composition and wooden eight-loose-ball-jointed body with straight wrists. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: Depose (impressed) 12. (head) Jumeau Medaille d'Or Paris (body). Comments: Emile Jumeau, the head is "Depose" only rather than the more recognized "Depose Jumeau" impressed mark; that and the E.J. like qualities of the modeling suggest an early example of registered bebe, circa 1882,and making this a very rare doll. Value Points: the rarity of the bebe is rivaled by its gorgeous face, bisque and splendid eyes, original signed body, beautiful antique cream wool embroidered dress and silk frou-frou bonnet.
