Description
17" (43 cm.) Wax-over-papier-mache shoulder head of adult lady with oval face and very
elongated throat with well-defined throat hollow,sculpted blue bonnet with modeled large
white feather,painted facial features,blue upper glancing outlined eyes,single stroke
brows,accented nostrils and eye corners,closed mouth,sculpted gold earrings,blonde mohair
wig in arranged braids below the bonnet and captured in a chignon at the nape,modeled
bodice edge at bottom of shoulderplate,muslin body with carved wooden lower arms and
legs,painted black boots with red lacing and blue bows. Condition: generally excellent.
Comments: probably Dressel,Germany,circa 1865. Value Points: rarity factors include sculpted
bonnet,bodice and earrings,superb modeling details,original body and wearing original
costume and undergarments. The doll was featured in an article "German Wax Ladies" by
Estelle Johnson,Doll Reader,February 1993.
