Description
29" (74 cm.) Carved wooden figure of older child or woman is posed standing upon attached
wooden plinth,with jointed right elbow,elaborately-sculpted hair with defined looped
braids,and ringlet curls in front of sculpted pierced ears,sculpted facial features with defined
eye sockets,heavily-lidded painted brown eyes with spiral threading,accented nostrils,closed
mouth,painted complexion and features over gesso,painted red stockings and gold
sandals,wearing early green velvet gown with metallic trim,brocade sleeves,jewelry,and richly-
beaded metallic cap. Condition: structurally very good,finish is worn and may have old
retouch. Comments: likely 17th-century,in Flemish Van Dyck style of portraiture and painting.
Value Points: especially fine sculpting of hair with remains of original gold leaf
painting,exquisite beaded cap.
