Description
10" (25 cm.) (excluding head-wear). Having angular poured wax head with tiny bead
eyes,painted features,mohair white wig,carved wooden torso and lower limbs,wire armature
upper arms and legs,expressively-posed fingers. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: 18th
century,probably Austrian,the figure depicts the archangel Saint Michael according to research by
early doll scholars,Ruth and Robert Mathes who depicted the doll in their 1987 book,Dolls,Toys
and Childhood,page 116. Value Points: well-preserved early figure wearing elaborately beaded
and embroidered original costume and feathered headdress,and having carved and painted
wooden wings.
