Description
6" (15 cm.) (with original wooden stand). 5" doll. Wax shoulder head with tiny bead eyes,well-
sculpted and painted tiny facial features,closed mouth,firmly-wrapped linen body,wax lower
arms and legs with painted orange high boots. Condition: very good,original finish is well-
preserved with some typical fading of painted features. Comments: mid-18th
century,Continental,the doll was likely intended for placement in a busy and well-laden early
dollhouse. Value Points: very precious well-defined modeling including facial expression and
expressive hands,the doll is on its original wooden stand,and is wearing its original rare early
printed linen dress,apron,and fitted cap. The doll was featured by Estelle Johnston in an article
"Dolls' House Dolls",Doll Reader,February 1995 featuring 18th century models and described
as "the most exciting doll of this group".
