13" (33 cm.) All-composition doll with brown complexion,black sculpted short hair,painted
facial features,dark brown side-glancing eyes,dark eye shadow,closed mouth with painted
teeth,five-piece composition body. Condition: generally excellent,chip on right ear,torso and
one arm well-crazed (under costume). Comments: portrait doll of Jackie Robinson,produced
by Allied-Grand Doll Co,the doll appeared in Playthings in March 1950. Jackie Robinson
(1919-1953),whose name is most known for having broken the racial barrier against black
players in professional baseball,yet is also known to baseball fans for his exceptional playing
career; in 1997 his playing number 42,was retired from use by any major league team. Value
Points: with superbly-preserved complexion and painting,Jackie wears his original Brooklyn
Dodgers flannel uniform with number 42 stitched on the back,"B" on his cap,and "Brooklyn
Dodgers" on his jacket and shirt front.
