Description
17" (43 cm.) Bisque swivel head on kid-edged bisque shoulder head,cobalt blue glass enamel
eyes,dark eyeliner,painted lashes,arched feathered brows,accented nostrils,closed mouth with
outlined lips,unpierced ears,black mohair wig over cork pate,curly mohair moustache and
goatee,wooden poupee body with shapely torso,dowel-jointing at shoulders,elbows,hips and
knees,bisque lower arms with well-sculpted fingers. Condition: generally excellent.
Comments: French,circa 1867,the luxury nature indicates the doll having been created for the
Parisian doll store of Simonne. Value Points: very fine modeling,bisque,painting,and dramatic
eyes,rare wooden body with bisque hands. The doll was couturiere-costumed by Estelle
Johnston,inspired by the 1867 painting,Dinner at the Tuileries by Henri Baron (see details
including silk embroidered braces and tricorn hat),and was awarded blue ribbon at the 1984
UFDC convention for doll costumed by owner.
