Description
10" (25 cm.) x 6". Each is a die-cut softbound book titled "Travel Stories of Fan,Fan-ie,Ginger and Little Stitches,The Baseball Kids,Smallest Baseball Team in the World" by Valrie McMahan, illustrator and author, copyright 1933. Book I and 3 were published by The Doll University, and Book 2 by Toyland of America, both organizations established by McMahan with the notion of developing sports-themed toys and dolls for children during weary Depression era time. Her 12-acre estate in Atherton California was named "The Doll University" and she planned the building of a doll factory near Palo Alto to manufacture dolls that she designed. When she died in 1947 at age 65 she was known as "the doll lady" and described by the San Francisco Chronicle as a "society beauty,author,artist,sports-woman and businesswoman". The books are in near mint condition, and extremely rare.
