Description
13" (33 cm.) seated. Wax-over-papier-mache head lady with blue glass eyes,painted
features,open mouth with double row of teeth,brunette mohair wig,paper-mache shoulder
plate and torso,wire upper arms,wooden hands and feet; the lady posed seated,holding a
decorated wooden mandolin in her arm,and when wound,she nods her head to and fro,strums
the mandolin,music plays,and,periodically,her eyes blink rapidly one,two,three times.
Condition: overall very good,original waxing with repair to splits at each side of
head,craquelure on shoulder-plate,finger tips worn,head mechanism functions a bit bouncy.
Comments: Theroude,circa 1850. Value Points: the rare early automaton lady is wearing her
all-original silk red and gold gown with matching bonnet,glued-on fancy silk shoes,four
strand pearls,and has been preserved under her original glass dome.
