Description
18" (46 cm.) including platform. A carved wooden doll with head turned to the side has ornately-
sculpted brown hair with coiled braids and ringlet curls,with painted brown eyes in defined
sockets,feathered brows,eyeliner,closed mouth solemn expression,padded armature body,carved
wooden hands. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: maker unknown,early 1800s,the doll
is posed upon original wooden base with painted floral decorations and inscribed "Schwaben",a
small village nearby to Munich. Value Points: most artistic quality of expression and carving,with
exquisite coiffure,wearing elaborate original costume whose accessories including sewing tools
from chatelaine,intricately-woven basket,parasol,and leather satchel dated 1827,on beautifully-
painted original platform.
