Description
12" (30 cm.) Each has bisque swivel head on kid-edged bisque shoulder plate,cobalt blue
enamel inset eyes,painted lashes and brows,accented nostrils and eye corners,closed mouth
with accented lips,brunette mohair wig over cork pate,French kid poupee body with gusset-
jointing at elbows,hips and knees. Condition: generally excellent,woman has very faint
forehead hairline. Marks: 0 (woman) 1 (man). Comments: French,circa 1865. Value Points: the
sought-after petite poupees wear wonderful antique costumes,the woman in blue woolen
gown with unusual woven collar and matching muff,woven tri-corn hat,undergarments,leather
shoes,jewelry; and the man wearing antique costume comprising velvet pants,brocade
vest,purple silk long-tail jacket and bi-corn hat. The two dolls were shown by Estelle Johnston
in her 1986 Doll Reader article "Pleasure in Pairs".
