Description
21" (53 cm.) All-wooden doll with one-piece head and torso,heart-shaped face,very elongated
throat,shapely high-waisted torso,dowel-jointing at hips,knees,shoulders and elbows,painted
black hair with shaded detail of curls around the face under original brunette human hair wig
wig with braided chignon at the crown (hiding the wooden tuck comb),painted complexion
and facial features,small brown eyes,closed mouth,blushed cheeks and chin,pierced ears.
Condition: fine unplayed with condition,craquelure vertical lines on face and throat.
Comments: Grodnertal,circa 1842. Value Points: superb early doll in rare size has original rare
wig in original coiffure with decorative comb,hair ribbon and flowers,and elaborate original
five-layered costume enhanced by silk flowers and ribbons,blue kidskin slippers with silk
ties,laced leggings and rare fitted kidskin fingerless gloves that extend to elbows. The doll
was a blue ribbon award from 1988 UFDC convention,and was featured in Collector's
Encyclopedia of Dolls by Coleman,page 1216.
