Description
25" (64 cm.) Cloth stockinette head with needle-sculpted,painted and embroidered facial
features,set-in eye sockets with defined whites,accented eye corners and nostrils,closed
mouth,fringed brows and eye liner,brunette hair,wire armature body with padded cotton
cover. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: early 20th century,the doll is attributed to
the work of Yugoslavian artist Dusanka Bulajis who is said to have earned a Medaille d'Or
award in Paris for her doll creations (date uncertain). The doll was acquired from the famed
Samuel Pryor Collection. Value Points: fine artistry of face,the lady wears her very elaborate
original costume with white blouse having embroidered sleeves and bodice,velvet vest with
metallic trim,silver beads,woven wool skirt with needlework edging that matches the thick
needlework on her apron,and coordinate with her heavy woolen stockings and brown leather
shoes with upturned toes,red silk bows in hair and sleeves,undergarments.
