10" (25 cm.) Solid domed paper mache head with black painted pate,tiny black enamel inset
eyes,painted features,open mouth with two rows of teeth,shapely carton torso and legs,firm kid
arms with stitched and separated finger,mounted upon a three-wheel tinplate base,wearing fine
early costume of aqua silk with gilt paper appliques,lace hanky,silk
flowers,undergarments,attached kidskin slippers,and velvet and silk trimmed bonnet over coiffe.
When wound,the doll moves forward and to each side,turning her head,and moving her arms up
and down as though enjoying the flowers she holds. Condition: generally excellent. Comments:
French,circa 1850,attributed to Theroude. Value Points: an especially pleasing rare early doll with
wonderfully-preserved costume,charming movements.
