10" (25 cm.) The firmly-stuffed all-brown-leather doll has shaped features including nose,chin
and tiny mouth,defined neck,with cut-out eye sockets,applied pupils,painted brows,black wiry
hair and is wearing her original costume of transfer printed cottons,wrapped turban and jewelry.
Condition: generally excellent. Comments: for the French market,late-19th century,the doll was
designed to represent women of the Martinique Islands. An article about the dolls appeared in
the French journal L'Illustration at that time. Value Points: rare to find doll with excellent
construction details and imaginative design,is well-preserved.
