Description
21" (53 cm.) l. x 14"d. x 12"h. A firm-sided wooden box opens to serve as the floor and
supporting walls for the five-sided walled room which can be stored folded within. When
unfolded,the walls form an elegantly-fitted salon with richly-papered walls having defined
moldings,paneling,and two floor-to-ceiling windows with fancily-decorated curtains. The box
floor has tapestry-design paper finish to suggest carpeting. The room is fitted with luxury-
quality rosewood and ebony furnishings including 11"h. armoire,10"l. canopy bed,marble-top
nightstand,faux-marble front fireplace,pedestal table and four bentwood chairs. The furniture
is upholstered with blue silk comprising tufted seats,and fringed and braided borders,and the
room is further decorated with a large gilt ormolu mantel mirror,two oval portraits in ormolu
frames,very elegant mantel clock with figural designs,and candelabra. The room and
furnishings are excellent,exterior box worn. French,circa 1875,an exceptionally luxurious
room likely sold by prestige shop such as Maison Giroux.
