Description
3" (8 cm.) Each of the six dolls is shaped of a very fine kid or silk,with egg-shaped head that has
minutely-painted facial features including details of stippled curls around the faces of the
women,and painted beards or side burns on the men,firmly-shaped upper torso and arms,and
with cork lower body designed to accommodate bristles. Condition: very good/excellent,bristles
lacking. Comments: early-19th century,the miniature "bristle" or dancing dolls. Value Points: an
extraordinary set of six dolls,the three pairs are preserved in their original boxes,and each is
wearing a superbly-detailed original costume including stove-pipe hat and cravat on the
gentlemen. The dolls were described in Ackerman's Dolls in Miniature book,page 47,with note
made of the "individualized portraits".
