16" (41 cm.) all-wood carved wooden figure with one-piece head,torso and upper arms,bald pate
with defined sculpting of curls at front forehead,long flowing curls at the back,and a very full
carved moustache and beard,sculpted ears,enamel upward-glancing inset eyes,painted brows
and lips,shaded eye lids,original blue painted body suit and brown gloved hands,swivel jointing
of upper arms,dowel-jointing at elbows,hips and knees,carved curled fingers,bare feet.
Condition: generally excellent,original hole at crown indicates an original detachable head piece.
Comments: early Santos figure,southern France,Italy or Spain,probably late 18th century. Value
Points: very fine carving and artistic original painting of the early figure.
