25" (64 cm.) Pressed bisque socket head with elongated face,very full lower cheeks and
chin,blue glass paperweight inset eyes,dark eyeliner,painted lashes,brush-stroked brows with
feathering,mauve blushed eye shadow,accented nostrils and eye corners,closed mouth with
outlined lips,impressed dimples at chin,philtrum,and lip corners,separately-modeled pierced
ears,blonde mohair wig over cork pate,French composition and wooden eight-loose-ball-
jointed body with very plump limbs,straight wrists. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: A 10
(head) Jumeau Medaille d'Or Paris (body). Comments: Emile Jumeau,the very first issue of his
signature bebe,prior to the identical bebe with EJ.A. markings,circa 1879; the bebe is
discussed in The Jumeau Book by Theimer and Theriault,page 302,with historical reference to
this model being sold at double the price of other Jumeau bebes in an 1879 Paris Etrennes
catalog,thus indicating its deluxe nature. Value Points: an exceptionally beautiful example of
the rare model with superb modeling,lovely pale bisque with subtle blushing,original body and
body finish,wonderful antique costume that may be original,French leather ankle boots signed
